Planting Imagination
I am a member of Planting Imagination, a multilingual and intergenerational community-led group working out of Cecil Community Centre's back garden in Toronto's Chinatown West. I became involved in this group after participating in an initial co-design project, led by Linda Zhang, that aimed to develop, build, and maintain a community garden space for Toronto's Chinatown West.
You can read more about the initial project in the paper here. This work was also presented as part of Hypercity, an augmented reality art exhibition held by Long Winter, and the Intersections Festival, a city-wide celebration of arts, culture, and community hosted by Myseum of Toronto. I was able to share my experience taking part in this project during a symposium for the Intersections Festival, which you can watch here.
We also organized a project, Let’s Build a Collective Memory of Chinatown! 邀請您共同創作唐人街的記憶!, that took place between Fall 2024 and Spring 2025. This involved bringing together over 300 Chinatown community members across four generations to explore how shared memory and imagination can safeguard Chinatown’s heritage and build community-led stewardship practices. This work was recognized in 2025 with a Heritage Toronto Award, in the Public History category.
Future Through Memory
I took part in Future Through Memory, a workshop series, led by Lilian Leung, with members of Toronto's Chinatown West community. Here, we used photogrammetry, virtual reality (A-Frame), and digital storytelling to explore themes of memory (personal and collective), community, identity, and the diasporic experience. I created a memory space reflecting upon late nights spent at Canton Chilli, a Chinese restaurant beloved by many for their cheap and generous portions of greasy Chinese food.
This work was also presented at Trinity Square Video as part of the exhibition When the Sun is Above the Horizon: Stories from Asian Diaspora, curated by Dias:stories. I had the chance to share my experience using photogrammetry and participating in this workshop series on an episode of CBC Arts' digi-Art series, which you can watch here.

Nights at Canton, a personal reflection on nights spent at Canton Chilli, a Chinese restaurant beloved by many for their cheap and generous portions of greasy Chinese food. You can visit the space here.
